FAQ

  • What types of photography do I offer?

The most simple way to respond to this is small group or individual. I like to provide intimate, high service experiences. That being said I have experience in the following genres: headshots, personal branding, commercial/product, beauty, boudoir or single/small group portrait. Also, as a nurse and a photographer I have also started specializing in photographing senior citizens.

  • Where will my shoot take place?

Given permission of the landowner and appropriate permits… and perhaps my skill level we can photograph anywhere in the world. Typically though I photograph local to my studio in Sandy, Utah. I am happy to meet you at your place or mine. Or some place local to us. Common favorites include: the Bonneville Salt Flats, the International Peace Gardens, Tunnel Springs Park, the Garden Park Ward, Wheeler Farm, Thanksgiving Point. Please notice the additional travel and permit fees may apply depending on the location.

  • How far in advance should I schedule my photoshoot??

The answer here depends on the type of photoshoot… but generally plan about 4 weeks to get digital products. About 12 weeks for physical products. Please note that while we love helping people out and can occasionally fit in a returning client- we provide a much higher service including consultations and fittings that require advance preparations to give you the best results possible.

  • How long will my shoot be?

The length of a shoot depends on your personal preference and package selection. We offer shoots that start at 30 minutes for headshots and up to about 2 hours for everything else. Please note these estimates do not include hair and make up time which is about 90 minutes. All that being said though- while we recommend a certain time of shoot we are happy to wrap things up quicker on your request…. we just would not be able to guarantee we meet photo display minimums for your photo reveal.

  • Will we plan the photoshoot together?

Yes. We consider this essential for all photoshoots, especially first time clients. We love to hear and collaborate on your ideas. And if you feel you don’t have ideas, but are looking to do something fun and new - no worries. We have a process we can walk you through everything. Planning a photoshoot may include (but is not limited to): a questionnaire, remote or in person meetings, collaboration on mood boards.

If you are looking to have a quick in and out with any photographer… we might not be a good match. We love working with clients in a collaboration method as we feel it turns out a higher quality product for you.

  • What is your retouching philosphy?

My philosophy is a few things… first is no one is perfect. I don’t photograph perfect people, I photograph humans and that is where the beauty is. I don’t really care to drastically alter a persons appearance whether it be wrinkles or shape. I do take great care to light, pose and style in the most flattering way that you will absolutely love the portrait. I am happy to retouch blemishes or other scars that would not normally be there- if you want. Some people like to highlight that ‘battle wound’. That being said my second thing is that cameras distort. While I am big on getting things right in camera- they can distort color and shape. I may retouch things in photoshop if needed to have it appear as it actually would in real life. Then my last thing would probably be artistic. It is fun to play a bit with some features such as color toning and adding a creative flair here and there. But please note I do not specialize in composite photography.

  • Do you offer color and black and white photos?

I do offer color and black and white photos. I will ask you your preference in our photoshoot preparation. I know some people tend to shy away from black and white but please know I feel they can distill a portrait down to its basics and in the end perhaps show more emotion, story or theme than it might otherwise.

  • Can I request certain editing techniques?

I welcome open communication with clients at all times. While we do provide signature edits, you are welcome to request any editing you would like. As mentioned previously on this page I do not specialize in composite editing. In the event I am not able to serve your specific request I will happily help you find services else where to assist. Please note that additional fees may apply.

  • Can I print the photos myself?

Unless specific arrangements are made all packages include print and corresponding digital size files. This means that if you order a 5x7 photo you will get a digital file that can print a quality 5x7 photo. While you are welcome to take the digitals to any printer you like please note we are not responsible for any color variations between printers. We will only work with specific printers when printing orders and are happy to share their information.

  • Can I post the photos on social media?

Yes! Please do! We love celebrating with you on social media. Please note that unless specific licensing agreements have been made our packages includes a personal use license on your photos. This allows you to use them anywhere you like, and as long as you like, for personal use. Additional licensing may be required for certain projects such as: a photo on or included in a book, a large marketing campaign, used on products to resell etc. We are happy to discuss your specific need and questions here, just let us know!

  • Will you be posting photos online?

I love posting photos online and sharing your stories… but I want you to be cool with it. Please know that I never want to post a bad picture of you. I think some clients worry that if there is a ‘bad’ photo in the session the world will see it. No, they don’t need to see any photo you don’t want them to. But if I do say so myself… some of the out take photos are pretty fun (wink, wink).

  • Can I bring a friend to the photoshoot?

Yes, please do. We don’t have anything to hide and our first goal is that you feel safe and comfortable. Please just do us this one favor though- bring the cheerleader friend, okay? To borrow a phrase from my photographer friend we have a ‘no smack talking policy’- and that goes for guests too.

  • What happens if there is bad weather?

We rarely reschedule. The first reason is that we usually are shooting inside so unless there is an absolutely huge snow storm that prevents you from driving across town… we are going to do the shoot. In the event we are shooting outside… we can consider the weather… or an alternative. We can move the shoot inside. We are not a location driven photographer. We are a people photographer. To borrow a phrase from another photographer they said they could photograph people anywhere- all they needed was good light. We also don’t discount that bad weather can turn out some absolutely epic photographs and experiences. We will work with you to determine what is best for your needs. Please note that we will outline any responsibilities for missed fees on late rescheduling at your appointment but will do everything we can to accommodate your needs.

  • What happens if I need to reschedule?

Our general rescheduling policy is that you need to reschedule 48 hours in advance or risk forfeiting retainers and other fees. This may change depending on the location or other dependencies for your session. We will do everything we can to accommodate you should an emergency arise but please note that will be up to our discretion.

  • Will hair and make up services be provided for my shoot?

Yes and yes. Hair and make up services are included in almost every package we offer. Please note though… as a girl that has rarely worn makeup her entire life… if you really don’t want make up I am not going to push for it. We can discuss more of your preferences at the consultation just know that it is likely included!

  • How much does a photoshoot cost?

The main answer here is it depends on what you want. Really anything is possible and we can shoot anywhere in the world. That being said headshot sessions range from $150-$650 and ala carte starts at $150. Most other session fees range from $400-$2900 and ala carte items start at $200. Average spend for headshot sessions is $450 and average spend for other sessions is $2100.

  • How should I prepare for my photoshoot?

There are alot of things to prepare for a photoshoot. To answer exactly what you should do to prepare for a photoshoot depends on your preferences. We have lots of guides to help depending on the type of photoshoot you want to do and will walk you through everything. Items might include: outfit shopping, haircut, other hair removal, drink water, get plenty of sleep, planning session with us and more.

  • What should I wear for a photoshoot?

This can vary depending on the type of session you want and what you want to accomplish. We have several guides and offer planning sessions to assist you. Here are a few brief guidelines:

Headshots/branding: I like to recommend bring something that is a little more professional here. This is great for that corporate website, your speaking bio or other professional use. Then bring something a little more casual… a little more you that may tell the observer something else about you.

Portrait sessions: Depending on your goal this can vary but with a few outfit changes we like to recommend that you bring something safe and you. Bring something that is a stretch… maybe something you have wanted to try wearing that sounds fun and then bring a few outfits in between. if don’t have all of that- don’t worry! We have an in house studio wardrobe and are happy to assist.

  • What should I bring to a photo shoot?

As you book with us we will share lots of lists to help your organization for your session. In general bring your outfits, including a few shoe options. We also recommend that people bring a few basics- different colors of under clothing (neutral, black and white), a few basic shirts/cami’s and pants. That way these basics can be inserted anywhere quickly should we want to change something up. You are welcome to bring props… they can be great if they are family heirlooms and if they add to your story. Please be sure to discuss all prop ideas with us at a planning session. Then as far as snacks, water and other items we have plenty to keep you feeling pampered at the studio.

  • What print products do you offer?

We love printing. It just seems like in this busy world sometimes the printing just never gets done and if you have photos with us we want you to be able to share them. So… printing products… We offer a few different options for folio boxes, albums, matted prints and canvas wraps. We are happy to discuss if you need anything else and customize an order to fit your needs and please know that unless otherwise discussed all purchased physical products do come with the corresponding digital file.

  • What is the turn around time on print products?

This varies depending on what you order and the time of year you order it as some of our products come from Italy. Generally we say to plan on about 4 weeks from the order session but sometimes it can take up to 10 weeks. Please know we do our best to be aware of any manufacturing delays to let you know at the time of ordering and keep you updated on everything as your order progresses.

  • What is the most popular print item?

The most popular print items is the folio box. This is a beautiful box imported from Italy that holds matted prints of your custom print portraits. People like these folio boxes as a center piece on their coffee table or as a way to get several prints to share with family.

  • When/how will I view my photos?

We will schedule your reveal session about 2-3 weeks from your session date. It is at this time that you can select whatever photos were included in your session package and upgrade to bigger packages or add on ala carte items if you wish. It is completely up to you to choose the photos you love. Reveal sessions are alot of fun in person but we are also happy to conduct them remotely if needed. Please note that taking screen shots of a photo during a remote viewing session would be a violation of copyright.

  • Can I upgrade my package?

You are welcome to upgrade from your initial package and add any ala carte items that you wish. We consider it our responsibility to curate beautiful photos for you, that you will love and want to keep. What you purchase- is up to you.

  • Can I order prints at a later date?

Please note our current policy is to hang on to your final selects as long as we can. Please note that selects do not include all pictures taken at the session and are the photos that are shown for purchase. We will offer one additional viewing session at no cost within 2 years of the shoot date where additional purchases may be made. Additional viewing sessions will be $100. Please note that as technology is increasingly tricky and cybercrime is on the rise we do not guarantee pictures would be available for any length of time after your reveal session.

  • Can my products be shipped to me?

We are happy to ship your products if you are not local. Please note that depending on your location and the products ordered there may be an additional fee charged.
